The first symposium, organised by Jun.-Prof. Dr. Benjamin Gagl, was titled "From Babies to Semantics: Leveraing Language Models as Tools for Psycholinguistic Research". The second symposium, titled "Levels of Orthographic Representation: From Retina to Word Form", was organised by Dr. Jack Taylor and Mr. Janos Pauli. QuaSemO 2024

In October 2024, we met in Munich to discuss the extent to which orthographic structure conveys information about the meaning of words differs between languages. In this meeting, we discussed the extent to which readers can grasp information about the meaning of words, even if they do not know the word. We brought together interdisciplinary experts in psycholinguistics, complex system scientists, and educators to discuss how to quantify the differences between languages. This event was organised by Xenia Schmalz, Dušica Filipović Đurđević, Benjamin Gagl, Jana Hasenäcker, Tanja Römbke, and Alexandra Schmitterer.

TeaP 2024 Symposia

We organised two symposia at the 66th Annual Meeting of the General Psychology Section of the German Psychological Society (TeaP 2024), held in Regensburg, Germany, from the 17th to the 20th of March 2024. The first symposium, organised by Dr. Xenia Schmalz, was titled "Methods in Reading and Language Research". This symposium presented examples of where experimental methods and big data approaches can provide insights into language and reading research. The second symposium, organised by Dr. Tanja Roembke and Ms. Matilde Simonetti, was titled "The Impact of Language Experience on Learning and Memory". This symposium explored how language experience can facilitate or interfere with the acquisition and memory of new information.
